Math Snapshots with Susan Dolisi

Susan Dolisi will guide 10 one-hour math classes that each focus specifically on one math topic. These are topics that we have noticed students ask about time and again. They are useful reviews for anyone moving forward in middle school or high school math and may have forgotten some of the basics. Additionally, students that are entering 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade might appreciate getting a head start on some of these topics. No more than 5 students per class. Cost: $40 per class, 3 classes for $100, 5 classes for $150, all 10 classes for $220 (this deeply discounted cost can be carried across multiple children from the same family, however, only one student may attend each class).

Offered on various dates and times in July and August for convenience.

The classes are divided into two 10-day sessions that will include 1 hour of daily instruction and guided practice. Included with the classes is a free 30-minute question and answer tutorial before each class for any student in the class who would like some extra explanations. This is a great opportunity for students moving forward in middle school and high school math who feel they may have missed some things during this past school year, or for those who want to get a preview of a class they will be starting in the fall. Best of all, if a student needs to miss a day of class due to a previous engagement, they can catch up by watching the recorded lesson through our new YouTube channel accessible on our brand new website!

READING WITH ANGELA SCHWARTZ

The theme at The Schoolhouse this summer is “Embracing Differences” and Angela has curated a selection of books for summer reading that does exactly that. Our guided and independent reading clubs are great for readers of all ages from preschool through high school. Whether you have a reluctant reader or a passionate reader, these engaging reading opportunities will have your students with their nose in a book all summer long.

Early Childhood Reading Time

Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00-3:45 starting July 14th and ending August 13th.

This parent and child(ren) reading time is the perfect respite in the afternoon right in your own home. In our Zoom room, reading teacher Angela Schwartz will read aloud a selected title and then guide you and your child through a craft that reinforces the positive messages about acceptance and love found in each book. Students will receive a reading room kit complete with a copy of the book and the supplies for the craft. All children in the family are welcome to join in the reading and activity. Just let us know how many craft kits to send along with the book when you register. Cost: $25 per session. Multiple sessions are $22.50 each. All 10 sessions are $200. The cost includes 1 copy of the book and 1 craft kit. Add’l craft kits are $5 each.

Young Independent Readers

Tuesdays 10:30-11:30am starting July 14th through August 11th

Some older primary and young middle school students are ready to read more advanced books, but would still benefit from a guided discussion about the book to be sure they get the most out of their reading experience. Reading teacher Angela Schwartz will provide that guidance during a one-hour literature circle with a small group via Zoom. The scheduled meetings are a great motivation to ensure that students complete (or nearly complete!) their reading goals over the summer. Students are welcome to choose one or more books to read and discuss. Cost: $35 per session, book included

Middle School Independent Reading

Thursdays fro, 4-5 July16th, 23rd, 30th, August 6th

Since sometimes it’s tough to get kids to read over the summer and other kids are always looking for the next good book, we have designed our independent reader series for advanced readers/middle school students to meet both needs. Let us help your child complete that required summer choice reading with our independent reading book club. Students will read the book selection for that week and meet with Angela in a small Zoom group for a structured literature circle.  Students can join in to read one book, two books, or all the books in the series. Weekly literature circle, including book: $35.
